There’s what you do to make a living and then there’s what you do to stay alive. For many years, I made my living as a technical illustrator, graphic designer, and then art director. In all that time, I returned as often as I could to my creative art - what I do to stay alive.

Spirit = Truth

Truth = Beauty

Art Reveals Spirit

This is my simple Artist's Statement. I truly believe that a creative endeavor becomes art when it begins to reveal the artist's truth.

My paintings are a blend of realism and fantasy, symbols and patterns. Though I'm not Native American, their traditions of totem animals, spirit guides and spirit shields are in my mind as I seek to bring my dreams and visions to the canvas. My subjects tend to be animals and nature and how we humans relate to them. Images vacillate between three dimensional imagery and flattened patterns of color and shade never really defining when one element ends and another begins.
